modern folk art

When I’m not spending time in front of a computer, I’m probably getting crafty. My passion for folk art began in college, when I finally mustered up the courage to take up Polish folk dancing. Typically, Polish parents sign their kids up for folk dance lessons at a very young age, but I took it upon myself to sign myself up at the prime age of 19—an old fart in the world of folk dancing. Anyways, after 3 years, I danced and practiced my way up to a repertoire of 10 national dances and also had the opportunity to spend a summer in Poland, performing in front of 1000s of people at an international festival.

While my dancing days may be over (for now), I continue to embrace the beauty of traditional Polish folk art in other mediums with a modern twist. Some of these include traditional embroidery and beading, century old paper cutting techniques, and manipulating Polish folk costume elements by presenting them in new and contemporary ways.
